book a discovery call with hannah
You’ve spent years building expertise, nerding out over research, and deepening your practice through thoughtful work.

Now you want to write a book that could change how readers think, work, lead, notice, or engage with the world.

But writing an excellent, compelling book—one that actually does justice to your ideas, showcases you at your best, and stands as a credible contribution to your field or market—is no small task

Any of this sound familiar?

  • I have the enthusiasm and ideas, but the thought of shaping those ideas into a book-length manuscript makes me feel like I’m standing at the base of Everest with no boots on. Where do I even start?
  • I can’t find the time to write! I’m already serving clients and managing my team all day and then doing a million dishes and packing my kids’ lunches at night.
  • I used to think there’s a worthwhile idea in here somewhere but now I feel discouraged and paralyzed every time I sit down. The words won’t come. How do I get momentum back?
  • There’s so much advice out there about how to write a book, but none of it seems to actually work. What’s wrong with me?
  • I just want somebody who knows what they’re doing to help me do a really good job so I don't have to backtrack later or waste time haring off on tangents.

After all, writing a book is a long-haul process that requires intense thought, energy, and effort. And our lives are already so full! (I think that’s part of why becoming a published author is so very, very satisfying.)

You’re not alone if you’re:

  • Struggling to find time to write, much less maintain momentum
  • Unsure how to make the book’s structure, or your writing, as compelling as you want it to be
  • Overwhelmed by the scale of the project or by all the competing advice trying to sell you on the way to write a book
  • Craving consistency and structure in your writing process but having trouble making that for yourself
  • Stuck and lonely while you write
  • Ready to have this thing done and dusted so you can move on with your life (or your next book!)

Any one of these can sap the joy out of the work, disconnect you from your ideas, and undermine your confidence. And if you write from that state—if words can even come out at all—you’ll end up with a book that reflects that smallness and disconnection, rather than one that leaps from the page.

But that’s not what you want, is it?

You’re a wildly capable person and you want a finished book you’re wildly proud of.

So if you refuse to settle for a half-assed book—or, worse, give up entirely—then it’s time to call in a catalyst to help you fall back in love with your ideas and your manuscript and actually get words on the page, even when life’s a hectic mess.

Writing a book is a long-haul process, yes, but it doesn’t have to be miserable.

Because you don’t have to do it alone.

talk with hannah about how it works

The Partnership is one-on-one, completely personalized book coaching that gives you a collaborative thought partner, a guide through the long labyrinth of writing a book, early expert editorial feedback to get and keep that book headed in the right direction, and the customized structure and accountability that help you make it all the way to a finished work you love.

With me as your coach, curiosity, play, and care are at the heart of the work right alongside rigor, so working on your book enlivens you instead of drains you

With me as your coach, you’re not paddling in circles anymore. You’re swimming purposefully and seeing progress, day after day, week after week, on the way to that beautiful end goal: the best book you’re capable of writing.

Introducing: The Partnership with Hannah

"Is it too early for a rave review as we’re still in the midst of the writing process?

Before I started, I looked at your website and your reviews. It’s always difficult to choose who to trust with your tender ideas. I had a vision for the book I wanted to write and though I spent time writing weekly, I couldn’t oversee the project—what would be needed, where it would end. Also, my [collaborators], though motivated, weren’t challenging my copy or ideas enough, so I felt I needed to get help to realize the vision I had.

4 months in, I can say that there is not a single word of hyperbole in any of the testimonials, on your website or in your emails

You’re gifted with language, but also gifted in getting the best out of the writers you support.

You deliver exactly what you promise, and I’m really thankful for your ongoing support. It’s a joy to work with you!"

Like you trust yourself to persevere through both nitty-gritty writing issues and practical/logistical obstacles.
You’re equipped with the tools, plan, and self-awareness to make headway, even on the hard days when distraction and overwhelm loom, and even when you have to work in tiny pockets of time.

PS: You don't need a plan that's like someone else's plan. You need something that fits your actual brain, book, and busy life.

Connected to and excited about your work.
There’s nothing like the energy of a collaborative boost and some fresh perspective. I know your ideas are worth sharing!

Seen and supported exactly where you are.
Creative work is a cycle of generation and dormancy; both are essential. Every idea takes time to unfold. Slow work is valuable. And sometimes a trustworthy sounding board is exactly what you need to open a path into the next phase.

Like you can see—and have a plan to reach—the finish line of your book.
Instead of feeling terrified or overwhelmed, you know in your bones you’re going to get there.

This isn't about pushing through. It's about creating and maintaining a sustainable process and writing well along the way, so your book can reflect the full impact of your ideas.

Through our work together, you will feel:

"Hannah has given me a much-needed fuel injection for my writing. Before I signed on with her, I was always thinking about writing, but miserable I couldn't get it out on paper, and frustrated with lack of progress

Since I started working with her, inspiration strikes more often, and in the best ways. Ideas are flowing better, and I feel like I have structures in place that support my process. I love having her wise counsel on the byzantine world of book publishing. Her services are absolutely 100% worth the investment."

Coaching unfolds differently for everyone because it’s a collaborative process that meets you (and your writing) exactly where you are. No cookie cutters involved.

Here’s what’s always included:

One-on-one catalyst sessions: 4 x 1-hour online calls

We'll have four one-on-one calls, scheduled every 1-3 weeks depending on your goals.

In the first one, we'll get a detailed foundational understanding about your project and approach. You'll come away understanding your own writing process, challenges, and strengths better. We'll make a generative, realistic plan.

The remaining sessions meet you where you are, supporting you on things like:
  • Solidifying your central message and reader takeaways so you don't waste time or energy writing to an outline that doesn't serve your vision.
  • Creating opportunities for more writing time in your busy schedule.
  • Sorting through publishing options so you can make an informed decision about what investment of time, energy, and money makes the most sense for you and your goals.
  • Sketching the whole arc of writing and publishing your book, so you know what to expect at every stage and can plan each one with confidence.
  • Acknowledging the secret fear that’s stopping your writing and experimenting with strategies that let you write anyway.
  • Adjusting your workspace and physical routines so they actually help you write.
  • Seeing editing in action and learning techniques you can use to strengthen your manuscript yourself.

I’ll always ask rigorous, thoughtful questions to help you uncover fresh insights and ideas. There’s so much more energy and potential in a two-person collaboration!

Timely email coaching

We’ll extend our conversations in-between calls on email, to help you make steady, satisfying progress toward your writing goal.

This can look like friendly waves, accountability mechanisms we build together, help with keeping the thought-thread alive, productivity-boosting surprises, and resources curated just for you. Response within 24 hours during business hours, Monday through Friday.

Editorial support on your draft

You’ll get editorial attention on up to 2000 words per session—feedback and direction on everything from how the material aligns with your intentions to sentence structure and language—so you can get clarity and ease at whatever level of detail you need right now.

Key takeaways and recordings of each session

Revisit insights and action steps long after the sessions have ended.

Accountability and process tools

What type of accountability works for you: rigorous reminders, encouragement, stern talking-tos? I’ve done it all, so we’ll create a system that will motivate you most.

Thoughtful questionnaires to begin and end The Partnership

Because you’ll do your best work when you really understand what you need, both internally and externally, to succeed. And you’ll be able to complete your book with more confidence, ease, and efficiency too.

What does it cost?

Who's your partner?

Hi, I’m Hannah! I’m a creative collaborator with 20 years experience launching visions forward with both rigor and care.

I’ve supported the creation of over 50 works of nonfiction as a coach and award-winning, “expert” editor (so designated by the Editorial Freelancers Association, one of America’s biggest professional editing associations, not just my happy clients).

I’m also the author of How to Enjoy Being Edited: A Practical Guide for Nonfiction AuthorsI understand the pitfalls and pleasures of the writing and publishing process from both sides. I’ve been quoted as an editing expert in two other guides on writing nonfiction. So yeah, I’m a word nerd.

But I’m a body nerd, too: I was co-artistic director of a dance company and worked for a decade as a professional dancer, choreographer, and theater performer. The common thread? I’m an experienced and empathetic collaborator who understands the challenges of creative work and has the chops to help you make great work despite those challenges.

Though most of my clients choose to self publish so they can work on their own timeline and with maximum creative control, I’ve also helped authors develop their manuscript for hybrid publishing and have had a hand in books traditionally published by companies like W. W. Norton, Johns Hopkins University Press, and Cambridge University Press.

Are we right for each other?

Mutual fit is essential. That’s why I have a call with anyone considering The Partnership. (I’ll always be up front if I think I’m not the best person to help you move forward and I’ll refer you to someone else great whenever possible.)

But if these describe you, then it’s highly likely we’ll be a good fit:
  • You’re an expert, leader, entrepreneur, consultant, strategist, journalist, academic, or other nerd with work, research, a perspective, or ideas to share.
  • You’re intellectually curious, welcome collaboration, and see the deep value of outside insight and reflection.
  • You’re committed to finishing your book and ready to move it forward now.
  • You want your book to speak clearly and meaningfully to your intended audience, in your unique voice, rather than get mired in jargon or obscurantist prose.
  • You want your book to be really damn good.

You want to write with intention, depth, and clarity while accomplishing a career goal or life dream—not just publish something good enough. The Partnership gives you the structure and support to do it.

At this point, you might be thinking that this all sounds very nice, but:

"Shouldn't I be able to do this on my own?"

Of course you can write a book by yourself! You’re an intelligent person with great ideas, and there’s tons of information out there to guide you.

But just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

There’s no prize for doing this on hard mode. No prize for grinding yourself to dust along the way.

Besides, writing an excellent book is not just a matter of cobbling some content together. It’s also not just a matter of discipline. It’s a matter of perspective, skill, and confidence. (You can borrow mine as you build the muscles of your own.)

Long-form work requires you to hold space for large, complex ideas; keep your ideal reader’s needs primary; make structural decisions early; stay the course when you’re crashingly tired of it all; and judge the clarity of your own thinking over an extended period of time. That’s all difficult to do when you’re sitting in the work. You’re too close to it.

My editorial and coaching (and choreographic!) experience means I can see and hold the whole book while you are deep in creation mode—helping you keep the writing aligned with your intention and your voice so you can work more efficiently and confidently

And my superpower skills aren’t even book-specific. You can rely on me to ask powerful, generative questions and listen with my full presence. You can rely on me to catch the sparks of half-hidden and delicious ideas and fan them into something bright and great.

You’ll leave sessions feeling energized and more capable. Your process gets easier. And readers will be able to feel the difference in your writing.

I'd love to be your partner in that energized process. Join me?

What comes next

How would you like to move forward?

You can go it alone from here.

You can hire a ghostwriter to write it for you (budget at least $30,000 for someone great).

Or, if you want to write it yourself without mashing yourself to a pulp along the way, you can work with a book coach. I can get you to your best possible book more quickly and easefully than if you keep grinding on your own, with the enormous added benefit of having good company along the way.

You deserve to write in a way that’s calibrated to your goals, your brain, and your life.

And your powerful ideas deserve to become a powerful book.

So if you’re ready to get that book done in a way that respects both your intellect and your creative process, click on the button below.

It’ll take you to my calendar, where you can pick a time for us to meet. We’ll check for mutual fit and you can ask me any questions you need to make sure this is the right decision for you.
